Why do you believe in the Jamestown/Stutsman County Development Corporation?
The JSDC, since its creation, has continued to follow its mission and has proven to be successful in developing programs that assist existing businesses in growth and bringing new businesses into the county. With ever-changing economic conditions due to geopolitical, environmental, labor forces, pandemics and other external forces, the JSDC has been a resource to assist businesses to survive and grow in our region. Challenges and issues remain to be resolved, but the JSDC provides an environment for brainstorming and solving business economic challenges.
Why did you want to serve on the JSDC Board of Directors?
My reason for serving on the JSDC Board of Directors was to be part of the team to support and grow Jamestown and Stutsman County in a respectful and responsible way for the citizens of the city and county. We all have the same goal to retain and grow the economic base in the region, but in a responsible way, whether through entrepreneurship, relocation of businesses or new start-ups. When I travel to other communities, I make an effort to visit with other community leaders about their successes and I am willing to share any new ideas and information with the Board members to consider.
What are the benefits of living and/or working in Stutsman County?
The benefits of living and working in Stutsman County are numerous and many times are taken for granted. Having lived here all my life, I would consider Stutsman County a safe, inviting place to live and raise a family. We have great schools, public and private, and a great source for higher education with the University of Jamestown, all of which have strong community support. We are located in a rich agricultural region with excellent transportation with Highway 20, US 281 and Interstate 94 and air service with Jamestown Regional Airport.
We are also blessed with wide-open spaces to enjoy the outdoors with many types of wildlife, recreation and the opportunities to enjoy these opportunities in a clean, safe and unpolluted environment. We have a strong Parks and Recreation department that supports numerous activities and events for the community of Jamestown and County Parks for camping and recreation activities. Opportunities for residents and visitors include hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, golfing, disc golf, kayaking, cross country skiing, ice fishing, softball, baseball, horseshoe pits, great parks, TRAC, splash park and many other special activities and events that take place during the year in the city of Jamestown and surrounding communities in the county. We also have a rich history of famous individuals and landmarks in the county.
